History & Story

The Silo Hotel was built in the grain elevator portion of the historic grain silo complex. The hotel occupies six floors above Zeitz MOCAA (Museum of Contemporary Art Africa) in the V&A Waterfront of Cape Town. Zeitz MOCAA houses Africa's largest collection of contemporary African art in the world.

We want The Silo Rooftop to be an uplifting experience for everyone who joins us, so we have just a few rules to ensure that you can all play nicely together. To avoid making waves, we also need to let you know that the rooftop pool is only for our resident guests.

The Silo Hotel is more expensive than most hotels in Cape Town but there's a reason why this is the case. The location, the esthetics, the space plan, the room size, and the service all combine to make the value worth the price.

The grain silo complex was the tallest building in Sub-Saharan Africa at 57m when it was opened in August 1924 after 3 years of construction.

Silo tells the story of a community that lives underground in a vertical safe haven due to the poisonous conditions of the outside world. The inhabitants of the silo believe an apocalyptic event centuries ago makes life on the surface impossible.

The Founders and the Construction of the Silo

The silo, we discover, was built by a group known as the “founders.” They undertook the massive construction project between 2049 and 2052, during a time of imminent nuclear apocalypse.
