Nedarag Guesthouse: A Sustainable Hospitality Gem in Iran by Next Office (2025)

Prepare to be amazed by the Nedarag Guesthouse, a remarkable project with a powerful story to tell!

In a remote village nestled in southeastern Iran, where approximately 200 households of the Sunni-Baluch minority reside, a non-profit guesthouse has emerged as a beacon of hope. This region, governed by a centralized and religiously homogeneous development system, systematically excludes ethnic and religious minorities. The village of Kahnanikash, in particular, faces severe marginalization due to the local practice of Zekri, a religious belief deemed heretical by the central government.

But here's where it gets controversial...

NextOffice-Alireza Taghaboni, led by the visionary architect Alireza Taghaboni, took on this project with a bold mission. Spanning an area of 95 square meters, the guesthouse was completed in 2024. The design team, including Ehsan Ahani, aimed to create a space that not only provided hospitality but also challenged the status quo.

The guesthouse's photographs, captured by Neel Studio and Ehsan Hajirasouliha, showcase a unique architectural style. With a focus on sustainability, technology, and innovative materials, the design pushes the boundaries of traditional architecture.

And this is the part most people miss...

The Nedarag Guesthouse serves as a symbol of resistance and a platform for cultural exchange. By providing a safe and welcoming space, it aims to bridge the gap between marginalized communities and the rest of Iran.

So, what do you think? Is this guesthouse a powerful statement against systemic exclusion, or is it merely a drop in the ocean? We'd love to hear your thoughts in the comments!

Remember, architecture has the power to inspire and provoke change. Let's discuss!
