The UW Form reports all tuition and fees paid to the university, as well as scholarships and financial aid money received during the tax calendar year (Winter, Spring, Summer, and Autumn quarters). These amounts are reported to the IRS.
One of the purposes of the 1098T form is to help students determine if they (or their parents or guardians who claim them as a dependent) can qualify for an educational tax credit. Please refer to the IRS Publication 970or visit our Education Tax Creditssectionfor more information.
For tax filing purposes, the 1098T from the UW is an acceptable substitute form of the IRS 1098T form as it contains the same information. The UW 1098T form includes a detailed list at the bottom of the page reporting all transactions with the UW, such as expenses paid and scholarships received. This will allow you to see what is included in Box 1 and Box 5.
For information on the box # on the 1098T form, please read the instructions fromthe IRS.
